Going Exotic

There are many types of mushrooms that are less commonly used, but they can bring a lot of flavor and texture to any dish you use them in. At Gourmet’s Finest, we offer a wide range of options to choose from, including mushrooms that you can easily fall in love with and prefer for any dish you plan to choose. Here are a few of the options we recommend.

Exotic Mushrooms

There are a wide range of exotic mushrooms out there. Those that we offer range wisely based on the season and our customer demands. Wood ear, alba pioppini, and forest nameko are probably a name you have never heard of. If you are interested in exotic mushrooms, we encourage you to give our team a call or to stop in to see us. We can help you find the version that is right for your needs, including those with a lot of flavor, a unique flavor, or a very beautiful look to them.

King Oyster Mushrooms: King oyster mushrooms are just what their name sounds like – they are large in size and full of robust flavor. These can be as large as 15 cm in length. They will lose much of their shape when they are cooked. What makes them so unique is that they are meaty enough to pass off as a type of seafood – they have the same type of texture as scallops do. They can work well for those seeking a mushroom steak or a vegan steak.

Pom Poms: These mushrooms are quite delicate. They are a soft, white sphere. Unlike other mushrooms, they do not have a stem, but rather have soft spines. There are a variety of names they go buy, such as old man’s bear or monkey’s head. They are a milder version of mushroom. They are a bit on the sweet side as well. And the texture is unique as well. You can expect it to taste and have the mouth texture of lobster, for example. Because they can breakdown, they are often a key component in sauces, but you can also serve them as appetizers. With a bit of melted butter, they can work for a vegetarian steak, as well.
